Doctoral study is coordinated with the master programs. It is even more dedicated to specific research projects aimed at developing and promoting the students’ scientific independence. Course work is diminishing, thus the students can concentrate on ambitious scientific projects. Students are welcome to actively participate in summer schools, workshops, and other events fostering scientific communication. Extended visits to other laboratories are strongly encouraged, providing opportunities to broaden the students' horizon and to establish networks with colleagues from other institutions.

Students with a 4-year BSc degree or students who did a MSc degree without thesis may undergo the Qualifying Year, before starting with PhD studies.
If you are interested to apply for a PhD course, please find more informations here.
The most gifted and ambitious students are welcome to apply for PhD studies in the honors class of the Bonn-Cologne Graduate School of Physics and Astronomy.
