Registering for doctoral studies and the doctoral examination procedure in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is done in the doctoral office.
You can find information on the process as well as the doctoral degree regulations and all necessary forms on the website of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (https://www.mnf.uni-bonn.de/promotion?set_language=en).
If you would like to do a doctorate in “astrophysics or physics,” please complete your proposal in full and send it and all necessary attachments to the departmental office. Once we have checked your proposal for completeness, we will ask the chairperson of the department to sign it and will pass the documents on to the doctoral office for further processing.
You will need to submit:
- A five-page proposal (this must already have been signed by the managing director when it is submitted to the departmental office)
- A copy of your bachelor’s diploma and bachelor’s certificate (please include the original for comparison purposes; does not apply to students who graduated in physics at the University of Bonn)
- A copy of your master’s diploma and master’s certificate (please include the original for comparison purposes; does not apply to students who graduated in physics at the University of Bonn)
- A copy of your official photo ID
- If applicable, a detailed declaration from your supervisor confirming that you possess adequate English skills (§ 8, para. 6 of the doctoral degree regulations)
- The registration form for recording statistics on doctoral students – § 5, para. 2 of the University Statistics Act (HStatG)
