„Zukunftsenergien – Zukunftsmusik?“
A physics show musical about energies of the future

The physics show musical “Zukunftsenergien – Zukunftsmusik?” uniquely combines theater, singing and live music with live physics experiments. In the one-hour show, the two protagonists – Humanity and the Universe – shed light on the physics behind climate change, renewable energies and energies of the future in an entertaining way.

The project is being developed under the leadership of Dr. Jana Heysel as part of the Science Year 2025 – Energy of the Future, an initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. The focus is on sustainable energy solutions of tomorrow.

The Idea

The phyusical is built on an encounter between Humanity and the Universe – a fictional scenario that deals with key questions of our time: What are the consequences of fossil fuels on the climate? What prospects do renewable energies and research into energies of the future offer us?

Vivid live experiments make the physical principles of innovative energy technologies such as geothermal energy, hydrogen and nuclear fusion accessible. The songs narrate the search for solutions, encourage thought and drive the plot forward. This results in a show that is as entertaining as it is educational, building a bridge between scientific topics and societal relevance. The show will be performed at the University of Bonn and in other cities.

Our Goal

Our goal is to highlight the relevance of research into the energies of the future and to arouse enthusiasm for science. The phyusical invites you to learn about the opportunities and challenges of modern energy technologies and at the same time to reflect on your own actions. In particular, we would like to inspire families, school classes from the age of 12 and anyone interested in a sustainable future – regardless of their previous knowledge. By combining physics, music and theater, we create low-threshold access to current research topics and show how exciting science can be.

Plot

Humanity is upset: Their ship is drifting off course – it’s about to sink! Desperately, they ask the Universe for help. It is supposed to present solutions with which Humanity can satisfy its hunger for energy and save the Earth’s climate at the same time – and quickly, please. But the universe counters: what is humanity prepared to invest in its future? Where does it currently stand and what technologies are still waiting to be developed? In the rousing physics show musical “Zukunftsenergien – Zukunftsmusik?” full of humor, live experiments and live music, Humanity and the Universe set off together on a path to the future.

Little by little, Humanity is understanding how generators are used to produce electricity, how heat pumps heat our homes and the potential of hydrogen as an energy storage medium. Will we succeed in unlocking the secret of nuclear fusion and securing our energy supply? Join Humanity and the Universe in the search for solutions and find out more about the energy of tomorrow. And perhaps today’s energy of the future will soon be the energy of today – and no longer just Zukunftsmusik (dreams of the future).

Science Year 2025 – Energy of the Future

The Science Year 2025 is dedicated towards energy of the future. What could an energy mix look like that is clean, reliable, affordable and conserves resources? What technologies have already been developed and what is currently being researched? What new energy alliances does our country need? What will the energy supply of the future look like – and what impact will it have on society? The importance of research for achieving a climate-neutral energy supply in the economy and society is at the center of the Science Year 2025. Energy research is an interdisciplinary, multi-layered, capital-intensive and strategic task. Climate change, limited resources and a simultaneously increasing global demand for energy are presenting governments, industry and citizens with new challenges that research is addressing. The Science Year 2025 – Energy of the Future offers a wide range of opportunities to gain insights into solution strategies from energy research, learn about the latest innovations and findings and engage in an exchange with science, politics, business and society.

The Science Year is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) together with Wissenschaft im Dialog (WiD).
